Mutero High School students in kombi accident

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed an accident involving a Toyota Quantum commuter omnibus that overturned while transporting Mutero High school students.

The incident occurred near the 106km peg along the Harare-Beitbridge road near Chivhu.

In a statement on Twitter, ZRP said, “A Toyota Quantum Kombi was involved in a serious road traffic accident at the 106 km peg along Harare-Beitbridge Road near Chivhu. The vehicle was carrying school children from Mutero High School in Gutu, along with the driver and a parent.”

The accident took place at around 10 a.m. when the kombi was en route to Masvingo. “The driver lost control, causing the kombi to overturn three times near Munyati Bridge before coming to a stop on its wheels,” the ZRP said.

All individuals involved in the accident are receiving medical attention. “All the vehicle occupants are currently being treated at Chivhu General Hospital,” the ZRP added.

Further updates on the condition of those involved and the cause of the accident are yet to be released.
