Isaac Mpofu and Tendai Zimuto, Zimbabwe’s representatives for the upcoming 2024 Olympic Games and World Championships, emerged victorious in the 21.1km and 42.2km races respectively at the 2024 Econet Victoria Falls Marathon.

This saw a growth of 21 percent from last year’s 4 150 runners. “Last year’s total entries for the race were 4 150 and this year we are sitting on 5 190 that have registered. It’s a growth of about 21 percent overall,” said one of the organisers, Williamson.

Mpofu and Zimuto have been training together in camp since January.

Mpofu, a middle and long-distance runner, is preparing for the Olympics in Paris next month, while Zimuto will represent Zimbabwe at the World Championships in Tokyo next year. The race comprised a 42km full marathon, a 21.5km half marathon, and a fun run.

There were also traditionally categories for paralympians. Williamson said the full marathon had grown by 53 percent from 400 the previous year to 640 runners that year.
