Businessman Mudiwa Hood has revealed that his exit from the music industry was driven by the success of his business ventures.

Mudiwa, whose music career boasts over 50 nominations and 32 awards since 2012, stated that his entrepreneurial success far outweighed the returns from music, making his passion for beats a “distraction.”

In a Facebook post Mudiwa Hood said he only stopped music because he was making more money in his businesses.

“The attention from music became a distraction,” Mudiwa says.

Mudiwa Hood, who is well known for fusing hip-hop with gospel themes, received his first significant honors with his 2012 album The Magnet, winning Best Gospel Artist and Best Album at the Victors Awards. His subsequent albums, The Street Preacher (2017) and Mwana WaMambo (2015), solidified his place among Zimbabwe’s leading gospel performers.

Despite stepping away from the microphone, Mudiwa continued to dominate the business world. From winning Best Music Brand at the Christian Business and Leadership Awards in 2017 to being named the Hip-Hop Personality of the Year in 2018, his influence extended far beyond the studio. His brand power and entrepreneurship were acknowledged by the Zim Business Awards and Mega Fest Awards, among others.

His biggest triumph, however, came in 2021 when he was crowned the Best Hip Hop Artist of the Decade at the Zim Community News Awards.

For those who thought the flashy artist was lost in the fame, Mudiwa made it clear that the business world was where the real money was.

In 2020, Mudiwa was also honored as the SADC Outstanding Charity Ambassador, proving his impact in both business and philanthropy.

For now, it seems the musical preacher is firmly grounded in his entrepreneurial empire, leaving fans wondering if he will ever return to the music scene.
