A 20-year-old man from Magunje was sentenced to 15 years in prison after being convicted of two counts of rape involving his employer’s 12-year-old daughter.
The herdboys’ court ruling was heard at the Karoi Magistrates’ Court.
The incident occurred in March 2024 and according to National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), the accused first assaulted the young girl as she was making her way home from school.
“The accused person who was employed as a herd boy raped his employer’s 12 year old daughter, and some time in March 2024, the accused person met the complainant who was coming from school.
“He dragged her into a nearby bush, where he removed her clothes and raped her.
“The accused person fled the scene after committing the offence,” NPAZ confirmed.
The second incident took place later that month while they were working in a tobacco barn, where the accused assaulted the complainant and instilled fear by threatening her with violence if she revealed the incident to her mother.
The incident escalated when the sexual abuse continued against the complainant, whom she later confided in her mother.
“Sometime in May 2024, the accused person fondled the complainant’s breasts, and she confided in her mother about the incident.
“The complainant’s mother ordered the accused person to desist from such behaviour,” confirmed NPAZ.
The case finally came to light when it was discovered that the complainant was pregnant, which led to her revealing the details to her mother.
“The rape incidents came to light when the complainant fell pregnant and confided in her mother of the offences,” said the NPAZ.
A police report was made against the accused, leading to their arrest.
