HARARE, Zimbabwe – August 4, 2025 The Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) has appointed Sugar Chagonda as its substantive Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
The appointment took effect on August 1, 2025, announced on August 4, 2025.
The ZBC Board cited Chagonda’s wealth of experience, strategic foresight, and dedication to organizational growth as key factors behind his appointment.
Chagonda is a seasoned media strategist and corporate affairs expert with over 20 years of experience. Chagonda’s career began at ZBC in 2004–2009, later moving to the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority as Head of Corporate Affairs in 2009, and then to the Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Company in 2018 as Corporate Affairs Executive.
In a statement, the ZBC Board said: “The ZBC Board expresses unwavering confidence in Mr. Chagonda’s ability to elevate the national broadcaster’s editorial standards, operational efficiency, and financial sustainability.”
Beyond his corporate roles, Chagonda has contributed to sports development as a Zimbabwe Football Association board member and founding Secretary General of Manica Diamonds Football Club. He holds a Social Studies Degree from the University of Zimbabwe, a Master’s in Public Policy and Governance from Africa University, and an Executive MBA from Midlands State University.
