Harare – Former President Robert Mugabe’s son, Robert Mugabe Jr., is expected to appear in court in Harare following his arrest on Wednesday for alleged possession of illegal drugs.

The 33-year-old was reportedly found in possession of cannabis and cocaine during a police operation in the capital. Law enforcement authorities confirmed the arrest, saying the substances were recovered in his possession and sent for laboratory tests.

The arrest has drawn widespread public attention, given Robert Jr.’s status as the son of Zimbabwe’s late long-serving leader, Robert Mugabe, who died in 2019.

Robert Jr., who has previously made headlines for his lavish lifestyle and business ventures, now faces potential criminal charges under Zimbabwe’s strict drug laws. If convicted, he could face a fine or a custodial sentence.

The case comes amid growing concern over rising drug abuse in Zimbabwe, particularly among the youth, which authorities say has become a public health and social crisis.

Robert Mugabe Jr. is expected to appear before the Harare Magistrates’ Court later this week.
