Joining other regional leaders at the 24th Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (Comesa) Heads of State and Government Summit, President Mnangagwa has departed for Nairobi, Kenya. He was escorted to the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport by Vice President Dr. Constantino Chiwenga, Defence Minister Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri, Minister of State for National Security Lovemore Matuke, Minister of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Kazembe Kazembe, Chief Secretary in the Office of the President and Cabinet Dr. Martin Rushwaya, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Nick Mangwana, and other high-ranking government officials
The summit is running under the theme “Using Digitalization to Strengthen Regional Value Chains for Inclusive and Sustainable Growth”. In preparation for tomorrow’s 24th Comesa Heads of State and Government Summit, His Excellency will attend the Council of Ministers meeting today along with his Comesa counterparts.
Burundi will hand over the chairmanship of Comesa to Kenya, while Zimbabwe will take over. From 2026 to 2027, Harare will host the next Summit and direct the bloc’s agenda. This demonstrates Zimbabwe’s increasing influence in determining African economic policy, promoting trade facilitation, and propelling cross-border industrialisation.
