Multiple international media outlets have reported the death of veteran Kenyan opposition leader and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

According to early reports, Odinga died while undergoing medical treatment at an Ayurvedic facility in Koothattukulam, Kerala State, India. He is said to have suffered a cardiac arrest during a morning walk. Medical staff reportedly rushed him to Deva Matha Hospital, where efforts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful.

Odinga, who was 80 years old, had travelled to India for specialized treatment. His death, if officially confirmed, would mark the end of a political era in Kenya. Over the years, he was a central figure in the country’s pro-democracy movement and opposition politics, shaping national discourse for decades.

However, fact-checking platforms, including Africa Check, have urged caution. They note that while several outlets have carried the story, there has not yet been an official statement from Odinga’s family or his political party.

Raila Odinga served as Kenya’s Prime Minister from 2008 to 2013 and was a five-time presidential candidate. Known for his charisma and resilience, he played a key role in Kenya’s democratic transition, constitutional reforms, and opposition politics.

As of this publication, the Kenyan government and Odinga’s family are yet to issue a formal confirmation. This story remains developing and will be updated as verified information becomes available.
