The Government of Zimbabwe has officially launched the Zimbabwe National Youth Empowerment Strategy 2026–2030, a landmark plan aimed at accelerating youth participation in national development. The launch took place during the inaugural National Youth Symposium, which is running from 21 to 22 October 2025 under the theme “Empower the Youth, Secure the Future.”

The event, hosted by the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Development and Vocational Training, brought together government officials, development partners, youth organizations, and the private sector to chart a clear roadmap for youth empowerment over the next five years.
In his remarks, Youth Empowerment Minister Tinoda Machakaire underscored the importance of the strategy, saying it is designed to place young people at the heart of national development.
“Our youth are not just the leaders of tomorrow; they are active change-makers today. This strategy is about giving them the tools, opportunities, and support they need to shape their own future and the future of Zimbabwe,” said Machakaire.
United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator Edward Kallon commended Emmerson Mnangagwa and his administration for prioritizing young people, especially through efforts to address pressing social issues such as drug and substance abuse and child marriage.
Chairperson of the Zimbabwe Youth Council, Rutendo Mugwagwa, said the symposium highlights the power of mentorship and structured support.
“This gathering is a strong statement from both young people and government that youth must be active partners in development, not passive beneficiaries,” Mugwagwa said.
Delivering the keynote address, President Mnangagwa outlined several priority areas for the youth agenda, including digital transformation, skills development, and entrepreneurship. He said stakeholders must work together to align youth aspirations with national priorities and ensure equal access to opportunities.
The President also emphasized the need to modernize vocational training institutions to meet industry standards and called on the private sector to play a stronger role in supporting youth-led enterprises and improving access to finance.
“Our young people must take the lead in digital innovation and embrace new technologies. We are committed to creating an environment where their ideas and talents can thrive,” said the President.
During the event, the President officially launched the Youth Empowerment Strategy, which is built on five strategic pillars and several cross-cutting themes. He also urged young Zimbabweans to uphold national values, embrace ubuntu, and contribute boldly to nation-building.

Several young achievers were recognized for their contributions to different sectors. Award recipients included:
- Leeroy Tadiwanashe Zaware, known as Comic Elder — honored for his impact in digital entertainment.
- Nisha Ts — celebrated for her growing influence in the music industry.
- Lesley Marange, founder of Glytime Foods — recognized for leadership in agro-processing and manufacturing.
- Gracia Bvute, host of the food review show Pabvute Gourmet — honored for promoting Zimbabwean cuisine through creative digital storytelling.
The National Youth Empowerment Strategy aligns with key national blueprints including the Transitional Stabilisation Programme, National Development Strategy 1, and National Development Strategy 2, positioning young people as key drivers of economic growth, innovation, and social transformation in Zimbabwe.
