The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed the arrest of Vengesai Jabulani Mutasa (41) in connection with the murder of Constable Courage Muchechesi at ZRP Sanyati earlier today.
According to a statement issued by ZRP Chief Staff Officer for Press and Public Relations, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, Mutasa fatally shot Constable Muchechesi during an incident at the Sanyati Police Station.
The suspect is also accused of having previously shot Detective Constable Ngwenya of the CID Homicide Department, who was part of a team pursuing him for the August 2025 murder of businessman Joseph Mutangadura.
After killing Constable Muchechesi, Mutasa reportedly robbed Abraham Mayavo (30) of USD 5 while Mayavo was in the process of filing a report with the police.
The ZRP has commended members of the public in Sanyati, Kadoma, Chakari, and Patchway for their swift action in assisting the police to apprehend the suspect.
“We commend the public for their quick response and cooperation, which led to the arrest of the suspect,” read the police statement.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police said further details will be released in due course as investigations continue.
