Harare — November 5, 2025:
The Ministry of Tourism and Hospitality Industry has issued a statement addressing a circulating video involving travel vlogger Davud Akhundzada, who was reportedly denied access to the Mbuya Nehanda Statue site in Harare.
In its statement, the Ministry explained that the statue is a National Heritage Monument under the Ministry of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage, and access to certain areas may be restricted for preservation and security reasons. The monument, described as a proud symbol of Zimbabwe’s liberation history, is subject to specific safety and security protocols.
The Ministry said it is working closely with other government departments to improve tourist management and ensure better coordination at heritage sites. Plans are underway to deploy tourism officers at key cultural monuments to guide visitors and provide accurate information.
Apologizing to Mr. Akhundzada for the inconvenience, the Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that all tourists enjoy safe and memorable experiences at Zimbabwe’s heritage sites.
