The Chief Secretary, Dr. Martin Rushwaya, alongside the Deputy Chief Secretaries, Heads of Departments, Chief Directors, and staff in the Office of the President and Cabinet, have extended their congratulations to His Excellency, President Cde. Dr. Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, for successfully hosting the 44th Southern African Development Community (SADC) Summit of Heads of State and Government on August 17 and 18, 2024.
The regional summit took place at the New Parliament in Mt.Hampden.
Dr.Rushwaya acknowledged the responsibilities that come with SADC presidency and how the SADC Summit event saw various leaders convene to address critical issues impacting regional peace, solidarity, and socio-economic transformation.
“Hosting such a monumental event requires meticulous planning, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to the values that underpin our regional community. It was indeed a historic occasion that brought together diverse leaders united by a commitment to ensure that their nations take their rightful place as a formidable haven of peace and development,” read the statement.
The 44th summit was running under the theme “Promoting innovation to unlock opportunities for sustained economic growth and development towards an industrialized SADC,” and Rushwaya highlighted on Mnangagwa‘s foresight as the country is already prioritizing the critical areas.
“We are inspired by the remarkable foresight our President has already demonstrated and prioritizing these critical areas, and Zimbabwe as a whole is confident that under his stewardship, SADC will march forward relentlessly and use its peaceful environment to compete favorably for investments during an era when regional conflicts and instability inevitably hinder progress.
“We are confident without reservation that the new leadership role provides an invaluable opportunity for the distinguished revolutionary of impeccable credentials to influence key policy directions that promote social equity and political stability throughout the SADC region,” said Rushwaya.
