Zimbabwe Women Soccer League defending Champions Herentals Queens have advanced to the semi-finals of the CAF Women’s Champions League COSAFA Qualifier despite a 2-1 defeat to South Africa’s University of Western Cape in their final group match.
The match, which was held at Mpira Stadium in in Blantyre, Malawi, saw Herentals Queens struggle against a determined University of Western Cape side.
Despite their best efforts, Herentals Queens were unable to secure a victory, leaving them with a loss in the group stage. However, their earlier performances were sufficient to ensure their progression to the next round.
Herentals Queens advanced to the semi-finals as runners-up in their group, benefiting from a 2-1 defeat of Green Buffaloes by FC Ongos. This result solidified Herentals Queens’ position, allowing them to move forward in the tournament
They opened their campaign with a 3-1 win over Namibia’s Ongos Ladies before defeating Zambian outfit Green Buffaloes 1-0 in their second game.
The CAF Women’s Champions League COSAFA Qualifier has been fiercely competitive, with teams from across the region vying for a coveted spot in the continental championship.
