Harare, September 17, 2025 – Nine Chinese nationals convicted of using dangerous drugs in Zimbabwe are now awaiting deportation, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) has confirmed.
The group, who pleaded guilty to cocaine-related offences, were recently sentenced in local courts. Their impending deportation marks the final step in a case that has attracted significant public attention and debate over the country’s handling of foreign nationals who break the law.

In a statement, the NPAZ said the deportations demonstrate that Zimbabwe’s justice system holds all individuals accountable regardless of nationality. “We remain committed to ensuring that drug-related crimes are prosecuted with the utmost diligence, and that offenders are removed from society to safeguard public well-being,” the Authority said.
The NPAZ also pledged to push for harsher penalties in future drug cases, directing Public Prosecutors to pursue stiffer sentences that reflect the seriousness of the offences. The Authority described drug abuse as a “significant threat” to the nation and vowed to intensify efforts to curb the scourge.

Statement by the NPA
Authorities expressed gratitude to the public for its vigilance, saying deporting the offenders reinforces Zimbabwe’s stance of zero tolerance toward drug-related crimes.
