A 39-year-old Nkayi man was given a 16-month prison sentence for beating an elderly person following an argument that was caused by alcohol. The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) confirmed that on June 26 of this year, Ncube and Gilbert Moyo got into a violent argument at Mpatshazwa Village, Chief Sikhobokhobo, Nkayi.
After being warned for throwing a tripod cooking stand, the offender became violent on June 26, 2025, while the complainant and the offender were enjoying beer at the victim’s property. He seriously burned the victim after pushing him onto the hearth and striking him on the ribs with a log.
The offender was arrested as a result of the incident being reported to the police right away. For medical care, the complainant was brought to Mbuma Mission Hospital. Ncube was found guilty on the lesser charge of assault, citing mitigating circumstances, despite the first charge being attempted murder, according to an NPA document. However, after eight months were suspended.
