Civil servants in Zimbabwe are set to receive a Special Presidential Bonus of US$150, starting in November this year. The announcement was made by Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Minister Edgar Moyo on Wednesday.
According to the minister, the bonus will be paid in two batches — with US$75 disbursed in November and the remaining US$75 paid out in December. The initiative comes as part of a directive from President Emmerson Mnangagwa aimed at cushioning civil servants during the festive season.
“This bonus is a show of appreciation for the critical role civil servants continue to play in serving the nation,” said Minister Moyo.
The announcement is expected to bring relief to thousands of public sector employees, including teachers, nurses, and other government workers. Over the years, bonuses have remained a key issue in negotiations between the Government and civil service unions, with workers often citing economic hardships and rising living costs.
Government sources indicated that further details on the payment schedule and modalities will be communicated in due course.
This development comes at a time when the cost of living continues to rise, and the local currency remains under pressure. The bonus payments are expected to provide some financial relief ahead of the December holidays.
